Editorial Advisory Board

Radhika Coomaraswamy, formerly the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission, has served as the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict from April 2006 to July 2012. She is an internationally known human rights advocate who has done outstanding work as Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women (1994-2003). In her reports to the UN Commission on Human Rights, she has written on violence in the family, violence in the community, violence against women during armed conflict and the problem of international trafficking.

Ernest Corea has served as Sri Lanka’s ambassador to Canada, Cuba, Mexico, and the USA. He was Chairman of the Commonwealth Select Committee on the media and development, Editor of the Ceylon ‘Daily News’ and the Ceylon ‘Observer’, and was for a time Features Editor and Foreign Affairs columnist of the Singapore ‘Straits Times’. Before joining the editorial advisory board, he supported IDN as Global Editor, contributing articles on a wide range of themes that impact the world. He is President of the Media Task Force of Global Cooperation Council.

Inge Kaul is adjunct professor at the Hertie School of Governance, Berlin, Germany and advisor to various governmental, multilateral and non-profit organizations on policy options to meet global challenges, including new and innovative ways of international-cooperation finance and global-issue diplomacy. She was the first director of UNDP’s Human Development Report Office, a position, which she held from 1989 to 1994, and director of UNDP’s Office of Development Studies from 1995 to 2005. She is the author of numerous publications on international public economics and finance. She is also advisor to Global Cooperation Council.

Roberto Savio is an internationally renowned expert in communications issues. He has founded numerous news and information projects, always with an emphasis on the developing world: Inter Press Service (IPS) news agency, the pioneering Technological Information Pilot System (TIPS), the network of national information systems for Latin America and the Caribbean (ASIN), the Latin American features service ALASEI and the Women’s Feature Service. He is now President Emeritus of IPS-Inter Press Service as well Chairman of the IPS Board of Trustees, publisher of Other News – Information that markets eliminate, Advisor to Global Cooperation Council and a Hiroshima Peace Laureate. He is the publisher of Journalists who turned the world upside down – Voices of Another Information.

Ismail Serageldin, Director of Egypt’s centre of excellence, Bibliotheca Alexandrina (Library of Alexandria), also chairs the Boards of Directors for each of the Library’s affiliated research institutes and museums. He serves as Chair and Member of a number of advisory committees for academic research, scientific and international institutions and civil society efforts. He is a former Chairman of the, Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR, 1994-2000), founder and former Chairman, the Global Water Partnership (GWP, 1996-2000) and the Consultative Group to Assist the Poorest (CGAP, a microfinance program 1995-2000) and was Professor of the International Chair Savoirs contre pauvreté (Knowledge Against Poverty), at Collège de France, Paris, and Distinguished Professor at Wageningen University in the Netherlands. He was the World Bank’s Vice President for Environmentally and Socially Sustainable Development (1992-1998), and for Special Programs (1998-2000). He has published over 60 books and monographs and over 200 papers on a variety of topics. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Cairo University and a Master’s degree and a PhD from Harvard University and has received 33 honorary doctorates.
